Borrowing Rules

Getting a library card is simple!
  1. Bring a photo ID or a piece of mail proving that you are a resident of Madbury;
  2. Fill out an application;
  3. Upon completion the librarian will issue you a library card.

Remember to bring the card with you to the library. The barcode on the card will also help you access your account online from home and is necessary when downloading audio or ebooks.

Madbury residents, as well as students and teachers in the Oyster River School District, may get a card for free. Non-residents can pay a $30 annual fee for a card.

Children can get their own cards once they are able to write their full name. Parents may want to consider checking out materials for young children on the parent's card as patron information is restricted by state law, RSA 201-D:11.

No Overdue Fees but We Do Charge for Lost Items

When checking out library materials please note the due date. We print a circulation receipt for every transaction (we can also e-mail your receipt if you'd like) to remind you when you need to return the materials so that we can make them available for other patrons.

The Madbury Public Library does not currently charge late fees.  However, items not returned within 3 months of the due date will automatically be declared lost and the replacement cost will be charged to your account.

Renewals
Materials may be renewed for the applicable loan period (see chart above) as long as there aren't any reserves on the item. Items that are on reserve must be returned to the library on time for the next patron. Books may be renewed at the circulation desk, online using your username and password or by phone, 743-1400.

Reserves
Books and other materials may be placed on reserve either by phone, or through the online catalog using your library card number and password.
You will be called or emailed when reserved items which are presently checked out become available.
